Finished my paper. Took a whole bunch of crap over to the new apartment. Even managed to have dinner after I got home at 10pm. I get to go play frisbee at the beach tomorrow!

Because tomorrow morning I begin my regiment of the project-thesis and if I hold out longer I have a few more moments of freedom left to squee. Because my prayer candle that was charged all during Morgan/Morgan La Fey/Morgaine day is presently burning away on my Goddess Altar. Because I am in love with portraying a shiny, prissy diamond and spent the night moonlighting on it. Because I've finished Middleman, but fate has denied me the ability to start season three Beauty and Beast, which means it will be saved for sanity breaks during the thesis. Because my house is too cold and I'm stubborn. Because I wish being an adult at this part of my life wasn't an uphill suckness first.
Which is the point of the prayer candle. I didn't meditate today during trance but I did get a spectacularly interesting insight from Morgaine about my present situation regardless while I was struggling to get to it before I just gave up and floated. It was the over view of my life where it is right now. And how the earth is spread out wide and endless, like the years of my life, before me. And these few months were right at my feet as ant hills. They could be avoided, they could be stepped over, they could be walked though clear with the imagine of the most minute yet complex labyrinthine tunnels, but they were not the end all, be all of anything. They were just the steps in front of my feet for these seconds.
I made my craft today focused on my work for this semester, which has left me nervous for wanting it back and wanting to be wearing it already. I'm considering clearing off a big section of my coffee table and building a tiny focus altar to this time, too. Somewhere to focus my nervous energy, my meditation, my rambles, my hopes and prayers.
I'm rambling and staring and it's nearly one thirty.
I should sleep and get up and work. It'll be better for me.

Hanna has come to call!
And by Hanna, of course, I mean Hurricaine Hanna, currently disguised as a Tropical Storm. At the moment, the Goodship Roommate is leaking from:
a) The window
b) The basement
c) and The ceiling, onto Lemanith's lower bunk bed (don't ask how that's possible, just accept that it is).
Further news as events warrant! Stay tuned for the aftermath of our daring trip to Home Depot for a replacement sump pump!

Three weeks until the Library of Congress National Book Festival! I hope that everyone within easy commuting distance* is planning to attend. It's sure to be a fun day, just for the festival itself, plus the forecast calls for a light dusting of hijinks and shenanigans! There will be cake. I may wear a disguise.UPDATE: Eden helpfully points out on the LJ feed that this is also an excellent opportunity to see the Jim Henson Smithsonian exhibit.
* Since it is on the Mall in D.C. there are many public transportation opportunities, including my regular standby: the $20 Bolt Bus that departs hourly between D.C. and NYC, Philadelphia, or Boston. The buses are new, clean, and have free wifi. You could take it down in the morning and then back up in the evening with a minimum of fuss.
I have received quite a few emails from people having problems with the free NEVERWHERE ebook, but have no way of knowing what percentage of the overall number of downloaders these emails represent.
With that in mind, I conduct the following unscientific poll. Please click on the option that best describes your interaction with the ebook:
- Option 1: I did not attempt to read it.
- Option 2: I read it online.
- Option 3: I successfully downloaded it by clicking the button and was able to read it.
- Option 4: I successfully downloaded it using the posted work-around and was able to read it.
- Option 5: I successfully downloaded it using the posted work-around but was unable to open it.
- Option 6: I attempted to download it, got an "ebx.etd" file instead, and gave up.
- Option 7: I am running linux.
- Option 8: I am unwilling to install new Adobe software to read it.
See results.
The Open Rights Group, of which Mr. G is a patron, is trying to reach 1,500 supporters by December. They are nearly two thirds of the way there. You can help by joining, and/or posting this widget on your site or blog:
And now, your daily tab-closing:
- For those in Denver, Tony Award winning actress Deanna Dunagan will be headlining "Stories on Stage" tomorrow (Sunday), reading Mr. G's story "Chivalry". If you click on that link, there is an audio interview in which she explains why she selected that story.
- Who Killed Amanda Palmer? goes on pre-sale Monday!
- For those outside the US who have found themselves unable to download Neverwhere, HarperCollins also offers The Neil Gaiman Reader. This is not the book of essays of the same name edited by Darrell Schweitzer, but rather a PDF containing the first few chapters each from Neverwhere, American Gods, Stardust, and Smoke & Mirrors. It also requires Adobe Digital Editions. (HarperCollins previously offered a version which worked with regular Adobe Reader. If you're on linux you can probably find it online by googling.)
- There is now a Graveyard Book shirt available from NeverWear featuring artwork by Mr. G himself! Available in S, M, L, XL, XXL, and girl's baby doll sizes.
And lastly, because several of you have asked, let me go on record as saying that none of these are me, nor are these. And while I'm on the subject, these are not the web elf. Though this appears to be some fanfic inspired by her?
Somewhere in my travels, I lost the second and third disc of The Wolves of the Calla. Is there anyone out there who would be willing to upload/send those discs to me? Otherwise the 'book is pretty useless (cool stuff happens in the beginning, dude!), so you'd be a lifesaver. Er, a booksaver? Either way.
Somehow I also ended up with only half the cds for American Gods, but seeing as I downloaded that from someone and don't remember who, that's sort of a lost cause...
Help would be greatly appreciated :o)

I finished the rough draft of my Italo paper but didn't look at it again, as my evening revolved around getting my maintenance man back to my house after hours to fix the air so my bunny more than myself would not die of heat exhaustion. The motor is fixed, the altar moved back to its corner, and for all my panicked care and devotion Moon is merrily flopping in her cage like its any other day in the world. Bunches of love for you, too, baby.
Saw my mothers for an awesome sushi pieces celebration pre-dinner and got to enjoy My Girl's company for errands, which was nice after thinking I wouldn't see either of them at all this week to get my work done.
Worked a little on slows tonight. Corroborated on future works, in conversations and e-mails. I made the tastiest dinner of white fish and spent the late evening simultaneously watching Middleman, answering more of my
full_moon_swaps interview form, and making a new prayer candle for this time and the coming two and half months. Paint markers were just what I needed and I really feel happy with this.
Tomorrow morning, in very few hours, is the RCG Morgan/Morgaine class which I'm helping to priestess again, so there should be an interesting write-up coming. Tomorrow night I'll be around so if you need me you should grab me then as Sunday through Friday of next week is going to spent with as much exclusivity as possible on my project-thesis first draft being completed.
Sleep for me. In just over seven hours I need to be ready for Morgaine and the Maiden.

AKA I made iTunes work. It only took three hours. But by God I made it work.

Okay. Help?
I had iTunes. It worked. All was well.
And then it froze up, so I ended the program. This was yesterday.
Ever since then, the damned thing won't start without crashing. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it, I've removed the install history and reinstalled it, and I am at my wits end. I needs me my music, folks. Pain management 101 for Kat: play pretty sounds. And I have GBs of music to add to the iPod (which is what I was doing when itunes froze, and the iPod seems to be fine).
How do I make it work again? What is it I need to do?

I know I am not the first Mawr-kid to post about this, but in case you haven't seen it (especially if you're in NYC and might have seen something). She's a teacher in NYC. She went to my college and is in fact my "sister" class. Wishing good thoughts for her family and friends. No matter where you live, be safe, guys.

Accidentally skunk-drunk. Women, in my experience, are at least twice as attractive as men. And yet, cocks are ridiculous! So, like, even if Joe Flanigan and/or David Hewlett was single, I'd feel obliged to consider their wives, yet wouldn't want to attack their genitalia.
Sorry. Was drunked by a very camp straight bloke. Huzzah for free aclkyhole!

I have bottled water, food that does not require cooking, and have taken all potential flying objects off my balcony just as a precaution. But on the whole, I think we are looking at a cozy, rainy weekend here.
*knocks wood*
I have already had a nap, a cup of tea, and am being followed around by a very lazy, unusually snuggly calico.
Maybe I'll get really wild and break out some half-finished craft projects tomorrow.

I am in PA!
Somewhere. Ishly. Some very teeny tiny place, which has a cheap HIExpress and a Subway, and I'm okay with that.
Can't move much at all; my head is feeling some better, so I'm hoping my hands will improve so I can type some. If not, this is going to be one long, hellish weekend.
Which it may be anyway, but whatever.
Wishing to maim several folk, most of them my relatives. Stupid "family" thing. Stupid "morality".
Random nugget of info I learned today: for a fairly long time (and up until relatively recently) my father's family produced the vast majority of all wine in Croatia.
Feet should prob not be like blocks of ice, huh?
Ember sulked at me when she realized I was leaving.
At first I thought I was being silly. And then she did it more. And my father noticed it.
Apparently leaving her twice in a weekeven for a few days is cruelty of the highest degree.
Why do hotels never have firm pillows?
Why do I never bring a firm pillow with me?
